FAQs
Q
What is the maximum limit for overseas credit transfer?
A
For undergraduate programs, the transferred credits may not exceed one-third of the minimum credits required for graduation. For master’s and doctoral programs, the limit is one-half of the minimum graduation credits. For students pursuing a dual degree abroad, the transferred credits may not exceed two-thirds of the minimum credits required for graduation.
Q
Can courses taken at a domestic exchange university be used to transfer general education credits? Which courses are eligible?
A
Credit transfer for general education is limited to general education courses taken at the exchange university. Only Language general education, Common general education, and College general education courses are eligible for transfer. Core general education courses are not eligible for credit transfer.
Q
Must I return to Taiwan to apply for overseas credit transfer? Can I confirm in advance whether overseas credits can be successfully transferred before going abroad?
A
Since credit transfer reviews are conducted based on the similarity between the syllabus of the overseas course and that of NCCU’s general education courses, it is not possible to confirm in advance whether the credits can be successfully transferred before departure. If students wish to seek prior confirmation, they may contact the Center for General Education by email during the course selection period of their overseas exchange. When sending the inquiry, please attach both the syllabus of the NCCU general education course for which credit transfer is sought and the syllabus of the overseas course with similar content, so that the Center for General Education conduct a preliminary review.
If the result of the preliminary review indicates that the credits are transferable, students must still complete the course during the exchange period and obtain a passing grade. Upon formally applying after the exchange, students must submit their transcript and relevant documents in order for the credits to be transferred. For detailed application procedures, please refer to Credit Transfer of Overseas Exchange Credits to NCCU General Education Credits.
Q
Can I use courses taken at a domestic or overseas exchange school to fulfill the University’s general education requirements?
A
According to the Regulations on NCCU Students Taking Courses Abroad, after your exchange semester ends, you may submit your official transcript or proof of grades from the exchange school and apply for credit transfer by the one-third mark of the following semester. You need to search in the University’s course database for general education courses with the same or similar course title or syllabus (note: core and college-level general education courses cannot be used for this transfer). The course must be offered during the semester of your exchange, but general education courses within ten years of that year are also eligible. For transferable courses and credits, please refer to Article 6 of the University’s Student Credit Transfer Regulations. Once your application is approved by the General Education Center, the courses taken at the exchange school can be credited as the University’s general education courses.
Q
What is the procedure for applying to transfer general education credits from domestic or overseas exchanges?
A
1. Based on the syllabus of the foreign school, search in the University’s course database for general education courses with the same or similar course title or syllabus. During the review, credit transfer will be judged based on syllabus similarity.
2. Prepare a copy of your transcript from the foreign school (stamped “certified true copy” by the Office of International Cooperation or your department), the syllabus of the course(s) you wish to transfer, and the corresponding NCCU course syllabus. Submit these materials along with the application form to the General Education Center within the designated period. For detailed regulations, please refer to the NCCU Student Credit Transfer Regulations.
