Team Structure
The Center for General Education a secondary administrative unit under the Office of Academic Affairs. To support the development of general education courses, a “General Education Committee” has been established, along with committees for each curriculum domain.
Composition and Responsibilities of the General Education Committee
Each domain committee consists of five to seven members, including one convener, one external representative, and several internal faculty members. These committees are responsible for the planning, coordination, development, and review of general education courses within their respective domains. The external representative primarily oversees course evaluation and review.
- Reviewing and formulating general education policies and systems
- Revising regulations related to general education
- Planning the development direction of the general education curriculum
- Evaluating and updating general education domains and courses
- Addressing other matters related to general education
Domain Committee Meetings
In addition, the General Education Committee holds at least one meeting per semester. Resolutions from these meetings are submitted to the Academic Affairs Council for review and approval. The domain committees are as follows:
-
Chinese Language
-
Foreign Language
-
Humanities
-
Social Sciences
-
Natural Sciences
-
Informatics & Computing
-
College Education
In addition to the domain committee meetings, the General Education Committee holds at least one committee meeting each semester. Committee members include the conveners of each domain committee, representatives from each college, faculty representatives, and two student representatives. This diverse composition ensures that a wide range of perspectives are considered in the university-wide review and development of general education courses.
The organizational structure of the Center for General Education in NCCU differs from that of most universities in Taiwan. As a secondary-level administrative unit, it does not have dedicated full-time faculty positions specifically for general education. However, this has become a distinctive feature of NCCU’s general education system. Through a faculty quota allocation mechanism, core general education instructors are assigned to academic units across the university that collaborate in offering core general education courses. Additionally, funding support is provided for both core and common general education courses across all departments, encouraging university-wide participation in the development and delivery of general education. This approach positions general education as a shared mission and responsibility across the entire university, rather than solely that of the Center for General Education.
