General Education Credit Transfer and Recognition
Regulations for Transferring Credits from Overseas Exchange Programs to General Education Credits at NCCU
-
01 Recognition Principl
During their exchange period, undergraduate and graduate students must take at least one course per semester at the host university abroad. After returning, students must submit an official transcript or grade certificate from the overseas university and apply for credit transfer of General Education courses at the NCCU General Education Center before the one-third point of the following semester.
For transfer of other (specialized) courses, please contact the respective department or offering unit. -
02 Eligibility
Undergraduate students officially approved by NCCU for overseas exchange programs may apply to transfer courses taken abroad as General Education credits, based on the similarity between course syllabuses.
-
03 Credit Limitations
- For undergraduate students, the total number of credits transferred from courses taken abroad must not exceed one-third of the minimum graduation credit requirement.
- For master’s and doctoral students, the limit is one-half of the minimum graduation credits.
- For dual-degree programs, the maximum transferable credits from abroad is one-third of the minimum graduation requirement.
- Regarding the conversion of overseas credits to NCCU credits, please refer to Article 8 of the National Chengchi University Student Grade Regulations.
-
04 Recognition Principle
Principles for Syllabus Review:
- Courses with identical titles and content.
- Courses with different titles but identical content.
- Courses with different titles and content but of the same nature.
Principles for Determining Transferable Credits:
- When transferring a course with more credits to a course with fewer credits, the course will be recorded with the lower credit value.
- When transferring a course with fewer credits to a course with more credits, the transfer will not be approved, unless the student completes the additional required credits through designated courses assigned by the department or relevant academic units. After completion, the transfer will then be recorded with the lower credit value.
-
05 Application Deadline
Applications must be submitted before the one-third point of the semester following the exchange:
- For the fall semester: around October 18
- For the spring semester: around March 28
-
06 Important Notes:
Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted unless special approval is granted through official procedures. Otherwise, the Office of Academic Affairs will mark on the transcript:
“Courses taken during the overseas exchange do not meet course requirements and are not eligible for credit transfer.”
Master’s and doctoral students may apply for recognition, but these credits will not count toward graduation requirements. -
07 Credit Transfer
Please refer to Article 8 of the National Chengchi University Guidelines for Student Grade Administration.
-
08 Application Procedure
Students must apply to transfer courses taken and passed at the overseas university by selecting a similar General Education course offered by NCCU during the semester of exchange. Courses from the past ten years may also be considered. Review will be based on the degree of syllabus similarity.
The following documents must be submitted:- Credit Transfer Application Form
- Official transcript from the overseas university, stamped as “True Copy” by the relevant NCCU department or the Office of International Cooperation (OIC)
- Syllabus of the course taken abroad (with Chinese or English translation if in a foreign language)
- Syllabus of the corresponding NCCU course for which credit transfer is requested
