Contemporary general education emphasizes not only the breadth of knowledge but 

also innovation in course design and the practical application of teaching philosophies. This page features exemplary and distinctive general education courses from various universities, showcasing elements such as classroom management, learning space design, pedagogical approaches, and hands-on practices. These examples offer valuable

The “Featured General Education Courses” invite instructors who have been recognized for excellence in the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Practice Research Program and have completed it three times. The “Model General Education Courses” are presented 

by recipients of the National Outstanding General Education Teacher Award. These 

educators share their course design know-how, distinctive features, and the 

transformation process of their courses, providing valuable references for general education faculty nationwide and enhancing the overall quality of general education.

Department of English – Professor Chih-Hsin Lin: Seeing Both the Trees and the Forest in Core General Education Courses

Professor Chih-Hsin Lin draws on many years of teaching experience in her field to reorganize knowledge and present it in ways that are accessible to students. She was awarded the Ministry of Education’s 11th National Award for Outstanding General Education Teachers.

Her course design emphasizes the principle of “seeing both the trees and the forest.” While guiding students to delve deeply into texts, she also helps them perceive the richness of life within them and cultivate critical thinking skills.

At the same time, Professor Lin places strong emphasis on class preparation and self-directed learning. With the support of teaching assistants, she fosters meaningful interaction between teachers and students. With great passion and patience, she accompanies students in their academic journey, helping them grow through knowledge and making learning a profound and continuous process.
