General Education Credit Transfer and Recognition
Regulations for Transferring Credits from Domestic Exchange Programs to General Education Credits at NCCU
-
01 Recognition Principle
During the domestic exchange period, undergraduate and graduate students must take at least one course per semester at the host university. After the exchange semester ends, students must submit an official transcript or academic record from the host university and apply for General Education credit transfer at the NCCU General Education Center before the one-third point of the following semester.
For transfer of other (specialized) courses, please consult the relevant department or course-offering unit. -
02 Eligibility
Undergraduate students who have officially applied for domestic exchange through NCCU may apply to transfer the credits earned at the host university as General Education credits, based on the similarity between the course syllabuses.
-
03 Credit Limitations:
- For undergraduate students, the total number of transferable credits from the domestic exchange must not exceed one-third of the minimum graduation credit requirement.
- For master’s and doctoral students, the limit is one-half of the minimum graduation credits.
-
04 Recognition Principle:
- Principles for Syllabus Review:
- Courses with identical titles and content.
- Courses with different titles but identical content.
- Courses with different titles and content but of the same nature.
- Principles for Determining Transferable Credits:
- When transferring a course with more credits to a course with fewer credits, the course will be recorded with the lower credit value.
- When transferring a course with fewer credits to a course with more credits, the transfer will not be approved, unless the student completes the additional required credits through designated courses assigned by the department or relevant academic units. After completion, the transfer will then be recorded with the lower credit value.
-
05 Application Deadline
Applications must be submitted before the one-third point of the semester following the exchange:
- Fall semester: around October 18
- Spring semester: around March 28
-
06 Important Notes
Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted unless special approval is granted through official procedures. Otherwise, the Office of Academic Affairs will annotate the transcript with:
“Courses taken during the domestic exchange do not meet course requirements and are not eligible for credit transfer.”
Master’s and doctoral students may apply for credit recognition, but these credits will not count toward graduation requirements. -
07 Application Procedure
Students must apply to transfer courses taken and passed at the host university by selecting a similar General Education course offered by NCCU during the exchange semester. Courses from the past ten years may also be considered. The review will be based on the degree of syllabus similarity.
The following documents must be submitted:- Credit Transfer Application Form
- Official transcript with passing grades from the host university, stamped as “True Copy” by the relevant NCCU department or the Office of International Cooperation
- Syllabus of the course taken at the host university (with Chinese or English translation if in a foreign language)
- Syllabus of the corresponding NCCU course for which credit transfer is requested.
